First off here is the website for the AHS: http://www.daylilies.org/
You will be able to find lots of information and gardens you can visit by the way you are in region 1.

Here is another website that list sellers from across the US just look for northern states.

I live in Minnesota zone 4, I have visited a nearby AHS display garden many times and a hybridizers garden a couple of time. When you visit a AHS display garden make sure you take a note pad and make notes on the daylilies you like. The daylilies will be labeled with the name and the hybridizers name. I know there are display gardens in your state, if they are in a reasonable distance call them to set up a visit. Then you will have a good idea which cultivars will grow and bloom well for you.

Karol Emmerich is a hybridizer from Minnesota her garden is Springwood Gardens she hybridizes lots of purples that are northern hardy. Plants do not have to be dormant to grow well in zone 4, I also have semi-evergreens and evergreens. Visiting gardens and seeing what they grow is the best way to see what might do well in your garden.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!
Faith is the postage stamp on our prayers!
