Great info here.
I am in southern Wisconsin, and even last year I didn't lose many daylilies (I always seem to lose a few!) The others are correct, snow helps protect daylilies. I too have a variety of dormants, semi-evergreens and evergreens.
I didn't think I would get into hybridizing, but it's kinda fun. I have more fun buying seeds off the Lily Auction, it has allowed me to get some crosses I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.
The other thing I have noticed is that my tastes have changed - and I have only been messing with daylilies for 5 years now. I started off with almost everything being red. Then I got into the purples, and now I am leaning toward the bright yellows and glowing oranges.....
Most recently I have been hooked on the mini's - yet previous to this I hated any daylily shorter than 30 inches
I am eventually going to have a Military themed garden others have Oz themes etc. So I keep watching for daylilies with military names.
