prairiegirl, Our GH stuck out at first, by adding the brick walk and small patio in front of the doors tied it to the garden. I then did a basic foundation planting.

I added a dwarf boxwood (that will be kept formally clipped) on either side of the patio, and have planted all season perennials around them. I have early tulips, Stella de Oro day lily, Gaillardia blanket flower 'Fanfare'. Planting a border along the walkway also help it looked like a destination rather than a bump in the garden. I finish the job with a large container planting on the patio corners.
