I've never pruned my armandii. When it's done blooming, I pluck off any unsightly leaves, and I also give the vine a good shake to get rid of the dead leaves underneath.
Here's a picture of it from last spring, just as it was about to bloom. I have no idea of how long this vine is. I've allowed it to take over the railing going up my front steps.
