Good Question Ann. I'm guessing that it is, as more & more plants are, or have been, altered/bred to be better disease resistant. Monsanto is most notorious, having produced the Round-up Ready strains of corn & soy. Corn has been modified since the 1950's, so we are all affected directly or indirectly. Almost everything we grow is now GMO. It's the older heirloom varieties that are not. Tomatoes have been bred for tougher skins for handling & transport. GMO is not always a bad thing. Bees create a lot of GMO naturally. But when the human factor starts playing with intra-species genetics, well, it's another matter.
