Well, if it's not only depending on the weather, but also the work you need to do in the garden, you are the one to know whether it will take really a long time. If yes, I'd say you could pot them. If you have the means (pots, dirt, space, etc).

Or you could find a spot in the garden, just big enough for these bulbs, plant them and enclose them somehow if you are afraid of dogs/rabbit damage. And work your garden around them. They will bloom nicely... and even if you need to move them somewhere else in the fall, I'd say it's better for them in the garden than in pots.
