Aw Deb they do look sad huh?? I'd put them in a pot somewhere (although then they become NOIDs) and see what you come up with!!! With such little soil and roots exposed its hard to weather the cold!! (they always amaze me though in their ability to return from what looks like "gone"!)
The ones in the front look great though!! I love what you've planted them in!
