Betty, some are annuals, and in my zone many are perennial ... but for these biennials (Sweet William - Dianthus barbatus), I just let the spent heads stay on and then pinch them when they are dry ... seems to get the seed to spread and regenerate. I think it is harder to find those that will live a long time in colder zones, though, as I usually had to replenish them in MN-IL, as well.

Tara, I agree, I love the spicy peppermint-clove smell, very refreshing in the summer!
