Canada Red chokecherry is a fabulous tree that should be in more gardens. Mine has not leafed out, either, so you probably have a few weeks yet. The peach trees are holding off too. We're supposed to hit 80 tomorrow with this wind. How am I going to keep these new roses moist? Mulch just blows off.
I ordered the Hannah Gordon because mine has so little green on it. Maybe it is a real tender one? Probably should not have ordered this one if that is the case.
I kinda wish I had crowded my roses up by the house instead of spreading them all over the yard. THat's how they get neglected--I just don't notice problems in time. One big bed is over 300 feet from the house, from the nearest faucet, so I have to drag 3 100' hoses. Usually I leave the hoses in the grass and just mow over them. (don't tell my husband!) Yesterday I bought a new 120' hose to catch another bed that is way out. If I can get a neighbor to help, I might rent a trencher and bury pipe so that I just have to hook up the ends when I want to water. I can lay soaker hose or drip line through the beds. The plumber quoted me something like $2700 to put a spigot out in one bed and there's no way I can do that. I can replace a lot of hoses or rent a trencher for under $100. I'll see if I can use my phone to take a pic and post it. The flagpole bed has 60 or so roses. It's the farthest away. I do have roses on the far white fence and along the pond, but they rely on rain for water.
