What is you location, if you get a chance send some photos of the type of ferns that grow there,
you may be in a much warmer (or cooler) location. I had a lovely Macho fern but the extra cold winter this year killed it even though I covered it with extra mulch. So I planted the new Lady Victoria fern in its place. Most of my ferns here die back in the winter and return in the spring, but a few hang in there (not looking all that good) all though the winter. This is the first year my Autumn fern that was already planted in the garden has returned and it is really putting on a show.
I love ferns also, last year the ferns I had made a very pretty addition to my garden, this year with the new ones it should look even more attractive.
