Becky. I have eaten purslane since I was a child. I love it and don't find it bitter. : )
My DIL is from Lebanon, purslane is a regular part of their meditteranian diet. She gave me seed for the one they use. It is an upright form and very tasty. I have not noticed the blooms on it. I will have to pay attention this year and post a picture.
