I've never tried the long handle type, this was just a whim that I've been happy with. I have to say the really good tool designs happened long before any of us were born. Most manufacturers try little "tweaks" for marketing and every now and again they hit on something. Very few bargains when it comes to tools.
I just had to ask the question, seems every Spring you see these modern gimmicky tools pop up in all the garden centers. I suppose most experienced gardeners steer clear. That claw was just a lucky shot in the dark. I could get by without it but it's proven it's usefulness.
