Catherine, I am originally from Mi and it is like a truck farm. We do go to market though so if i'm going to have anything to sell I have to plant a lot.
My son does organic orchard but for the life of me I can't remember what he does. (My area is the veggie and flower garden). I know he read Gayia's garden and got some info ther. If you go to the permaculture thread you matpy be able to pick up a thread that deals with orchards. But there are some people here who know more than I do.
