I didn't know that about the roses either...I thought they were all goners if you had deer. I think that what is endearing to me is that the blooms of this rose are small and clustered, never fully opening.....and the color is a bright, ' cheerful, cottage-y' red. I can tell you for sure which plants among those I've planted are difinitely deer proof...at least to 'my' deer...because last night while I was sleeping, deer were creeping. I have planted only allegedly deer-proof plants, but I've been bringing plants home from a friend and a few of those are not considered to be deer proof. Once I got them home and checked on the, I knew there was risk, but thought it small. The deer like cornus / Dogwood. I have a few dogwood trees that I've not planted, but did put 3 dwarf Arctic Fires in the ground and I see that the deer were nibbling on them last night. Nothing else on the property was touched and I don't want to dig those, so I will try the various suggestions for discouraging the deer, but not plant the remaining dogwoods. I also have a couple of Ninebark Coppertinas that I don't want to give up, so I will keep those containered until we have fencing and other deterrents up, hopefully. The ninebark are practically guaranteed to be deer food.
