I'd sure like to hear from others about grape care. I have 6 grape vines that are about 25 years old. They produce grapes, but don't always ripen. I don't have a clue what the varieties are, other than one is a concord and another is a green table grape. My mom gave these to me when we were first building our home and we hurredly stuck them in the ground, noting the varieties on a paper plate. I have, of course, long lost that plate... They are growing on a trellis and I have tried various methods of pruning. Last year I never got around to pruning other than to lop off the excess runners throughout the season and it was the most productive year yet.

On another note, I've often read that grapes can be toxic to dogs. Some grapes invariably fall to the ground and, while I try to toss most of them to the chickens, both my dog and the neighbor dog eat them like candy with no sign of distress. ??

Here's my trellised grapes, and the chicken yard is over the fence directly to the right.

I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.
