I have newts (aquatic salamanders) too, I usually find them underneath pots in damp shady areas. They move real slow. The lizards are entirely different, they lovely sunning themselves on the rocks and zip around ahead of me as I walk. This one below stopped to check me out as I was weeding, and he was doing push-ups. I read that they do that because their eyesight is not as good as ours and by raising their heads up and down they can see farther.
Personally, I think he was just showing off his blue belly! nodding
