Part shade or blooms may burn in hot sun, slightly acid, they have always been good performers for me, even now that I have alkaline soil. MULCH, lily bulbs like it. If the soil is too alkaline the leaves will be uniformly yellow, Orientals show this readily and a little elemental sulfur will go a long way.
