In this part of the south someone has dubbed crape myrtle as "crape murder" They are planted in highway medians and shaved off every year by the Highway Department so they are never allowed to grow into trees. I rarely see the natural form of a tree crape myrtle except in my own yard, and along the back of an old abandoned farmhouse property, behind me where they form a dazzling 100 ft high hedge along an old cattle lane.
