I have found I can keep some plants that are not my zone by surrounding them with stones , It seems to keep the ground temps just a bit warmer in the winter.
Might be worth a try Smiling
I use field stones and put them right on the soil with good ground contact about 4-6 inches from the base of the plant.
..a balanced life is worth pursuit.
