even though ITIS says they are the same, the plants represented by these names, S. whitehousei and S. dolichantha, are not even close to being the same.

I cannot even pretend to understand how a thing like this happens, but the so-called S. dolichantha, the 'purple Szechuan sage' from China, is a completely different plant and really should not be confused with this S. dolichantha (Cory) Whitehouse synonym as blessed by ITIS.

Perhaps the Chinese sage doesn't have a legitimate, accepted name. However, we do have two legitimate photos of actual plants here that need to go somewhere more appropriate because they cannot serve as images for S. whitehousei.
I propose that all who are more knowledgeable than me figure out how to clear up this confusion, and then I gladly propose that my image be moved to where it belongs Sticking tongue out
