i first saw them in bloom in cozumel, mexico. it was a stunning sight : whole streets lined with them in bloom!
they planted them all over miami and coral cables in the 20s. and there is an annual royal poinciana festival in miami/coral gables when trees are in bloom - usually near memorial day. the trees are gigantic by now!
when i saw this article i posted a multi that i took past winter in miami: the whole poianciana row lined with mature zamia furfuracea (cardboard palm). you can see how thick the trunks are. and they also have them in downtown along biscayne blvd in bayside park. they are fantastic!
