The yard feels very messy as I have done pruning and moved phlox that were encroaching into the paths. Also moved a mass of mini bearded iris. The front ivy hedges got there severe cut back in the front yard. The summer heathers are about finished blooming.
There are a few different yellow flowers blooming, squash, calendula, nasturtiums, rebeckia, false sunflowers and real ones too.
Then there are the fall crocus and anenomes with a second bloom of clematis and the obedient plant
It has been a great summer for winter squash. Most will be going to the food bank since I am more into growing it than we are into eating it. The butternut has certainly been sweet and savory basted with olive oil and roasted on the grill. I have been careful harvesting so that the turbans can finish maturing and hardening off and the bees can continue to coat themselves in pollen. I have seen as many as five to a blossom in the afternoon.
It looks like the tomatoes are going to continue ripening until Thanksgiving. We have been having them and cukes everyday for one or more meals.
What's with the sunflowers though? I planted a mixed seed pack behind the Hugelkultur. They vary in height from 2-25 feet tall. Crazy!
