I thought I should add a post explaining those criteria. Alpine plants are small and hardy mat-forming plants with a deep taproot. They can only thrive in a harsh environment and in soil poor in nutrients.

Miniature garden plants don't have to be hardy, don't have to be mat-forming, and don't have to be grown in soil poor in nutrients.
