I agree with everything you say, but I use the upper range spectrum, something at or greater than 5000 K. I use T-8's and have eight bulbs per 10x12' greenhouse. They are generally named "Daylight" and/or "Broad-spectrum". I am not only growing orchids but other tropical plants as well (staghorn ferns, fiddle leaf ficus, tillandsia, bromeliads, etc. I also use some LED lights, both reds and blues, but they are terribly expensive, and I use them just for my orchid seedlings. Since I am using my lights out in greenhouses, I only use those fluorescent and LED lights from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM. My plants need their rest period and I am not trying to force them. I am just supplementing the lack of bright daylight hours.
