I think you have it, in fact. That Yellow Bear Spilosoma virginica -- we do have that pretty white moth here, I saw several back in the summer.

This picture (from googling that name) is closer than any of the others I've seen:

And the moth would be the Virginia Tiger Moth. They really are pretty creatures.
