Gale, You will notice that I don't have many fancy face daylilies. Most years we have a lot of morning dew, some years cooler over night temps. Most fancy edged daylilies just won't open well. Even if I hand release them they're not as good as when they open them selves. I have been to the pacific northwest and seen the difference between one side of the mountains climate and the other side. It was amazing to me anyway to drive from such arid conditions to lush tropical looking land in such a short time. In other words it's all where you live and your climate. Richard Norris's sister live in the pacific northwest and would trial his daylilies there to see how well they would do in those conditions. I have found him to be a kind man and if ask a question will do his best to give an answer. This is also true of Gary Schaben (have some beautiful performers from him),Mike Derrow and Paul Owen. I was stunned at the patience these folks had for a little old lady gardener. Ginny Pearce fits in here as well.
