I have not dealt with this particular situation but in my part of SC, which is at least a zone or two cooler than you, I would throw it in our windowless unheated garage and only water very occasionally. Let it go dormant and then divide and out out in garden in late January/early February. I bought some tiny Cheyenne Spirit at a nursery last February, which was still frost danger for us, and planted them out. They did fine.
