You know, a couple of months ago one of my blue Vandas was opening a big spike and unfortunately I didn't realize it got so heavy, that it snapped. At this point all buds were open.
I simply plopped the whole spike into a vase and was actually able to enjoy the blooms for several weeks.
The Cymbidiums should last some time too.
