That's the trick for me, I had to tell myself sternly "don't buy any orchids in bloom any more", unless we're in Apopka.
At shows, if the vendors have a gorgeous big 'not for sale' blooming display plant and then smaller ones for sale of the same thing not in bloom, they are a more reasonable price and I will buy those. I can see and smell what I'm getting but not pay a premium for flowers.
Growing in my relatively uncontrolled conditions here, I just can't justify spending a lot for a plant any more, until I know its type will do ok for me.
