Here's what Swallowtail Garden says for germination:

Scratch seed coat on sand paper, then soak in warm water for 72 hours. Change water daily. Sow ¼ deep in 2 inch pots. At 66-75°F. Germination in 6 - 8 weeks. Can direct sow in prepared seed beds after last frost.

I used toenail clippers to break the coat and now have them soaking. They will be planted on Saturday.

Hopefully, at least one of us who is trying them will get some to germinate!
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
