All the 'maters have some fruit. I'm hoping to get lots of fruit set before it gets too hot. Forecast to be cooler next week. I assume that means 80s...

Almost had a disaster in the 'mater bed yesterday. DH and I were putting up the shade cloth when one of the center support poles fell, straight down, into the 'mater and squash bed! It nearly missed the Phoenix and snapped several branches off the Red Brandywine. One branch that is loaded with fruit bent but did not break. I wrapped the damaged stem with a strip of old cotton t-shirt and secured it to the cage. I sure don't want to lose all that fruit - lol. So far it looks like it will survive for that fruit to ripen - fingers are crossed. It could have been a much bigger disaster had the pole fallen sideways instead of straight down... It would have landed squarely on about 8 'mater plants - yikes!
God made rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done. ~Author Unknown
