Don't water if they're dormant. It isn't water that triggers them out of dormancy, it's sunlight and warmth. If you allow the roots to dry out THEN water, they will surely rot. Keep the medium slightly moist on top to prevent total evaporation but never water all the way through. It is not easy when they're in little pots like this.
