The story behind the double fern leaf is the grandmother emmigrated from Germany as a child and the family settled in Minnesota. Later she moved to Buckley, Illinois and spent the rest of her life there. She had passed many of the fern leafs to relatives and friends. She was 100+ when she died. Whether or not the plant came from Germany is an open question. I have had an original piece since 1981 when we moved to Salem. After several moves and divisions I have six or seven healthy plants. At $50 a pop, I try to keep them happy. I purchased a species P.tenuifolia Rubra Plena from HSFF for comparison but it has not developed as fast as some others.
