I think it is frost damage.......I see it ever year. I have seen it in several of the early emerging plants in various parts of the garden. I cut off the affected leaves and the plant looks good all summer. A friend has 200+ hostas in his garden and I've seen the same thing in his plantings. He attributes it to frost damage. If it is HVX we are at the beginning of an epidemic in our hostas.......
