Thank you so much for helping. I have been looking through AHS database as time permits and realize that the parentage of some listed "black" daylilies also needs to be researched.
As I am able I will check out each of your suggestions.
I spoke with folks at the nursery where I purchased it. All they could offer from that long ago was that many of their DL's were hybrids/crosses from Sutton, Corliss, Alexander, Russell and Wheeler. They said I may never find this one, as the above breeders were doing a lot of their work in the 50's and 60's and there may not be any pictures available for comparison. I was also told that around that time frame black daylilies were "en vogue" and mistakes were made at the grower level with names.
I took that to mean it was indeed mislabeled and they have no idea where it came from...but, I already know it was incorrectly labeled, so that is pretty much no information.
