I have three large fern baskets hanging from a tree limb. I have used the landscape fabric to line the baskets, but I secure the liners to the wire baskets with zip ties around the top edges. It keeps the fabric from slipping. I haven't had any problems with losing soil from baskets when watering. The water seems to go through the liner, but not as fast as with coir.
The wrens were ruining the coir liners as quickly as I could replace them.
