Neil I'm slowly going backwards on comments, but lovely blossoms on the trees. All right back to bark: I haven't seen those maples but they are interesting textures in the Garden. When we lived in Connecticut we had a 'shagbark hickory' which has bark similar to your paper maple. I miss it. Please don't ask the Latin name, I don't know. Hope that this will be interesting reading with your morning paper. Lucy
