Dear Cherie, when everyone is asleep that water still flows and fills the ponds and streams up! So they overflow into the next one and so on, the Victorians were clever and worked out you do not need a massive waterfall to keep the plants wet when the water is going down steep hills all the time. If it rains too much the channels in the pathways overflow into the soil and keep the other plants well watered. Amazing when this was built!
It also looks beautiful as well! What a thing to see when it works properly, which it wasn't the other day! They will fix it as it probably just needs cleaning!
I find it lovely as the water tumbles down underneath your feet as you walk up the pathways!
