I'm gardening in the Sandhills...

The first description that jumped out at me on google was loess... That's the good stuff!

I don't know what you have in your specific yard, but purchasing soil sounds like a mistake.

People here in GA get conned into putting worthless "topsoil" on top of their gardens too, so don't feel too bad.

I'd suggest amending with the compost that you made out of the weeds and other organics this year while you've been gardening, and then add any horse/ cow poop that you can lay your hands on.
