I have some wild orange day lilies I collected many years ago and planted in my garden. I've noticed some offsets produce double or triple flower heads with pollen growing on the petals or the usual manner, but no female part in any of the blooms and when the buds are close to mature the petals have soft spikes! What causes this odd mutation?
