0 or -3 degrees Celsius is you low? I wish that was as cold as we got. Then my figs and pomegranates wouldn't suffer from winter damage. We are more along the lines of -12C or 9F for winter lows. Some shade may be good for such a hot area but the plants will need light for photosynthesis. I definitely wouldn't try things like lettuce and spinach in your area, but artichokes would be a good veggie for your area along with eggplants and peppers. You may want to give them a shot next year.
