From leaf photo's I've viewed it looks as if Malva has larger leaves than Alcea. For comparison, some of the images in the ATP database show fairly large leaves for Malva sylvestris:
French Hollyhock (Malva sylvestris)
Mallow (Malva sylvestris 'Zebrina')
Mallow (Malva sylvestris 'Windsor Castle')
Mallow (Malva sylvestris 'Mystic Merlin')
Mallow (Malva sylvestris 'Brave Heart')
Mallow (Malva sylvestris var. mauritiana 'Bibor Felho')
Good leaf photos for Malva sylvestris also if you scorll down this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Images in the ATP database also shows some Alcea with large leaves but they don't appear to be quite as large as Malva leaves:
Hollyhock (Alcea rosea)
Hollyhock (Alcea rosea 'Summer Carnival Rosy Red')
Hollyhock (Alcea rosea 'Majorette')
Hollyhock (Alcea rosea 'Scarlet O'Hara')
