As for the external differences in the H. fulva var. fulva synonyms, they're actually irrelevant. Taxonomic reclassification usually is performed pursuant to DNA testing. It helps to think of the animal kingdom in these cases. We all see the differences between poodles and cocker spaniels, but they share the same botanical name in spite of these differences.
