Treehugger: Wow, that is a beautiful plant and yes, it does look like it could possibly be a Chirita, it sure looks to have the same growth habit. There are a few listed in the database with photos:

I used to grow a few Chirita's when I grew AV's and other Gesneriads. Chirita's are not Orchids, not even related to Orchids but they are beautiful plants in their own right! Once those blooms open you will be able to get a more exact ID so please post a picture of the flower when it opens.
