Well, I was looking at the Florida Atlas of Vascular Plants because one of your links mentioned that M. balsamina was only found in St. Lucie County. Sure enough, the map showed that. And it showed the other species is found throughout Florida and it's also listed as a Category II invasive. So it would seem more likely to be M. charantia simply based on location.
