One of the children started this in a pot and after it was about 2-3 feet tall it was put in the ground between two mature trees.

One of the mature trees doesn't look very healthy, so it may have to be cut down sooner rather than later. We wanted to have something growing. I will truly miss that tree. Besides the shade it provides, there is so much bird activity at that tree year-round. Hopefully, this maple will do just as good of a job.

I honestly do not know what type of maple this is; the seed was just picked up in a park. Silver and sugar seem to be the most popular around here. Someone mentioned if we have a silver that it should be trained as they tend to develop two trunks. In the case of a storm, it would not be as strong. So far, it looks to have two, is there any way to knock it back to one without killing it? I think it's height is about 4 feet or so. I only took a picture of where the split is.

Thank you for an advice.
