Hey Pam,
Thanks so much for mentioning that. I do it but had forgotten. I think they pull themselves down because right after you till the bed the soil is light and fluffy with lots of air pockets. As time passes and it rains the soil settles. If you plant before the soil settles my guess is the plants are pulled down in the process. You don't want to compact the soil before planting but it's good to get that settling done. I have to thank Dan Hansen for teaching me about this.
