My husband keeps wanting to use them as a mulch alternative under our huge Juniper hedge. Although I agree that it might be a good idea we haven't tried it yet as I need to get under there twice a year to clean out any unwanted weed growth. We had some sever damage to the hedge a few years ago from a storm that opened up the canopy and allowed some sunlight to reach the soil and weeds grew as a result. But now the damage is repairing it's self and there are fewer and fewer weed issues. I think that we may give this a try either this Fall or next.
I really like the idea of using them as a mulch in pots. I have a lot of big tropical pots and the squirrel just love digging in them. We don't have a Gum Tree but my daughter has an endless supply of them.
