Harvest here is done except the hay which will be cut again in many meadows. There are huge round bales sitting in many fields waiting to be moved to their winter storage spots. I've never seen a growing season like this has been. The spring rains gave everything a big headstart and, except for the "flash drought" of July, we have had a little rain often all summer. The cotton farmers are plowing under the shredded stubble and most fields look bleak and bare. The corn and sorghum are long gone. For some reason no one seems to plant winter cover crops around here. Our cows and horses, and pigs are fatter than they should be - on grass alone in most cases, and the chickens are laying as many eggs as we can sell! It has been a good year.
