Patti - your weather is about the same as mine Smiling Actually - you are slightly warmer. Bougainvillea thrive in Hardiness Zone 9 and up. They cannot handle temperatures below 30° F.

Soooooo you simply winter over indoors. Smiling In Winter, it NEVER gets below 63 or so in my house. As Mellani indicated, I simply ignore Zones. Smiling

Now it does play heck with trees - for example I cannot grow a Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata gets too big, but I did buy a Cananga odorata var fruiticosa which passed on from non-zone related reasons). But I do have a Ylang Ylang vine (Artabotrys hexapetalus) and I am growing Climbing Ylang Ylang (Artabotrys siamensis) from seed. I really want a Desmos Chinensis - Ylang Ylang shrub. Will attempt from seed this winter See? I simply ignore zones.
